FLY FISHING
Wild Rainbow Trout • Private Mountain Waters
South Fork of Battle Creek — Sierra Nevada Wilderness
A Private Wild Trout Stream
With over a mile of the South Fork of Battle Creek, Lassen Ranch has one of the few wild private trout fishing streams in all of Northern California. Limited to catch-and-release, barbless fly-fishing only — our stream is managed to ensure the health and vitality of our wild rainbow trout population.
Fly fishing the South Fork of Battle Creek involves both fast-moving riffles and deep clear pools beneath waterfalls. Both dry and wet flies on light four-weight rods. Also available is a stocked trout pond fed by a non-consumptive diversion from Battle Creek.
🐟 Wild Trout Size
Standard size from the Lassen Ranch section of Battle Creek is 6 to 12 inches, with the possibility of an occasional 14–16-inch rainbow trout.
Guided Fly-Fishing Package
Everything included — guide, all meals, and exclusive access to over a mile of private wild Sierra Nevada trout stream. One-, two-, and three-day packages available.
The Value:
Commercial guided fly fishing in Northern California typically runs $400–$600 per rod per day — without meals, without private waters, and without the exclusivity of a ranch setting. One guide per three rods is provided. Fly casting lessons are included as part of the guide service — instruction and recommendations are as little or as detailed as requested.
Lunch is served creek-side. The fishing area is about a 30-minute drive into the canyon from the lodge, so plan for a full day of mountain adventure.
